Camerele web sau webcam cum mai sunt cunoscute au devenit un instrument extrem de util in ultima perioada pentru desfasurarea activitatilor online. Sunt folosite pentru cursurile scolare online, pentru teleconferinte, pentru contactul permanent cu angajatii care isi desfasoara munca de acasa, fiind utilizate in platformele de streaming video precum Zoom, Skype, Webex, Google Meet etc.

Tehnologia plug and play permite conectarea webcamului la mufa USB a calculatorului si acesta din urma identifica automat prezenta camerei si o reda pe ecran. In vreme ce unele webcam-uri indeplinesc doar acest rol, exista si variante care au prevazuta functia de webcam, alaturi de functia standard de camera de supraveghere wireless, cum este camera wireless Vstarcam CU2.
