Depending on the type of HDD and storage capacity, you can opt for WD hard drives from the Purple series, designed especially for surveillance systems or from the Red, Red Pro, Green, Black, etc. series, but also for Seagate hard drives from the series dedicated to surveillance systems. DVRs support SATA HDDs of up to a maximum of 6TB each depending on the model, and NVRs allow the installation of HDDs of up to 4TB each. The option for one model or another is entirely up to you, but we offer you some suggestions to help you make the best decision.

Depending on the surveillance system you own or are going to install, it is a good idea to decide how you will make the recordings. A 4TB HDD may seem like a large storage capacity, but if your system contains many cameras that you want to record continuously at a very good resolution, then the space allocated for storing the recordings will be significantly reduced. It is important to note that you can select from the DVR / NVR menu the recording method, namely: continuous, in which case the HDD will fill up quite quickly, scheduled or on motion detection, in which case you can save enough space on the HDD if normally there is no continuous movement in the place where you have installed the cameras. In addition, if you select recording at a very high resolution, the HDD will fill up again very quickly, the size of the stored data being very large. One option would be to view the cameras at high resolution, and record at a slightly lower resolution to increase the storage time on the hard disk . It is good to opt for special HDDs to form the best surveillance systems , as they are built to operate non-stop and meet the parameters necessary for the safe storage of recordings made.
